Abstract

The occurrence of insects and other arthropods of medical importance in South and Middle America, the West Indies, Bermuda and the Falklands, and lands within the Antarctic Circle is summarized on the basis of a compilation of almost all available references in the scientific literature. The report includes, for each major group of arthropods, a listing of species and subspecies with biological and distributional data, tabulations of diseases or disease organisms transmitted, and complete literature citations.
