DYNAMICS OF A LIQUID-FILLED SHELL: CYLINDRICAL CAVITY WITH A CENTRAL ROD,

Abstract

A stability criterion is derived for a gyroscope containing liquid in a right circular cylindrical cavity with a rigid, circular rod along its axis. The criterion has practical significance for liquid-filled projectiles with central bursters. Recommendations are given for the design of such projectiles. For quantitative application of the theoretical results, a numerical tabulation of certain functions appearing in the analysis is required and is provided in an appendix. (Author)
