CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TECHNICAL MILITARY OFFICER.

Abstract

The general characteristics of the military R and D officer are described. Differences among the Army, Navy and Air Force samples are significant in regard to age, rank and degree level. The composite military sample, a Federal sample and an industrial sample are also compared. The composite military sample is the youngest of the three. Although the percentage of its doctorates is about half that of the Federal sample, it includes a larger percentage of professionals with advanced degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) than either the Federal or the industrial samples. Degree specialties are distributed similarly in all three samples--military, Federal and industrial. (Author)
