IMPLICATIONS OF SYMBOL USAGE ON U. S. ARMY MAPS FOR AN AUTOMATED CARTOGRAPHIC SYSTEM.

Abstract

Since it is not economically feasible to produce by automatic means all standard AMS symbols in an automated cartographic system, it becomes important to know their relative frequency of use throughout the world. It is also pertinent to analyze these symbols with respect to system design and development, so as to provide criteria for decisions relative to assignments for production by automatic or manual methods to an operational system.
