THE STABILITY OF A WEDGE-SHAPED AIRFOIL IN A SUPERSONIC FLOW.

Abstract

The paper considers the problem of stability of a plate in a supersonic flow. The plate has the form of a strip of infinite width in the plane. One edge is rigidly fixed and the other is free. The additional pressure exerted by the supersonic flow is given by A. A. Ilyushin's formula. The possibility of applying the small-parameter method for an approximate solution is discussed. The stagnation velocities are found by approximate solution in series and by the Bubnov-Galerkin method. A comparison of the results of the two methods shows a definite advantage of the latter.
