A RENEWAL THEORETIC APPROACH TO A FIRST PASSAGE TIME PROBLEM OCCURRING IN A NEURON FIRING MODEL.

Abstract

The note presents an alternative approach to the mathematical analysis of a neuron firing model proposed by Ten Hoopen. It is concluded that the times between neuron firings will not be a Poisson process if Ten Hoopen's model represents the true firing process and the level of depolarization required for the neuron to fire is not too large. Therefore, the possible validity of these models is subjected to experimental verification. (Author)
