THE APPLICATION OF NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE (YAMR) FOR DIFFERENTIAL MEASUREMENTS IN THE MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE EARTH,

Abstract

The author discusses the principles for constructing systems to use the nuclear magnetic resonance method for differential measurements in the magnetic field of the earth and some of the physical problems involved in putting these systems into operation. The literature on differential magnetometers is reviewed and the problems of reducing inherent noises and shielding from external interference are considered. An approximate comparative evaluation is made of the freedom from interference in various differential magnetometers with the following simplifying assumptions: (1) the spectral density of the input noises for the equipment in the working frequency range is constant, (2) the noise factor for all systems is identical and is determined by the devices preceding the indicator. Some additional sources of error are discussed.
