MAINTAINABILITY DEMONSTRATION RESULTS FOR 12 ELECTRONIC SUBSYSTEMS,

Abstract

This report presents the procedures employed, the results obtained, and ancillary findings and insights gained from 12 separate maintainability demonstrations. These demonstrations were conducted in accordance with MIL-M-26512, on electronic equipment installed at five operating ground sites. A total of 419 simulated malfunctions were inserted into 11 of these subsystems under carefully controlled conditions, and the times required to diagnose and correct these malfunctions were recorded. The twelfth demonstration was based on analysis of field-generated trouble and failure reports. The results are sure to be of interest to both the theoretician and the practitioner in the field of maintainability engineering, and will hopefully serve and interest many in the broader areas of system planning, system simulation, and system evaluation.
