VARIATION OF SALINITY WITH THE MIXING OF WATER,

Abstract

Usually the ratios between salinity or the content of various ions in seawater and chlorinity are calculated by formulas defining the mechanical mixing. This study discusses the corresponding relations, accounting for the separation or solution of calcium carbonate. The curves expressing the dependence of salinity on chlorinity and the points of conjunction of linear relations, which have been plotted earlier, appear to be correct. A new method is suggested for the calculation of calcium concentration in estuary areas of seas where, due to separation, the content of CaCO3 ions is smaller than in river water. (Author)
