GREASES. A METHOD FOR DETERMINING HIGH SHEAR STABILITY.
Abstract
Equipment was designed and built for the very high shear working of grease. The mechanical stability of eight greases was determined using the very high shear equipment. Breakdown of the greases was evaluated by consistency as determined in the 1/4 scale worked penetration, ASTM Test Method D-1403. Results are given in tables and graphs comparing the mechanical stability of seven lubricating greases and the effect of four shear rates. Details are given for the construction of the very high shear equipment. (Author)
