Proposed Auditory Damage Risk Criteria for the Navy

Abstract

The results of the latest thinking of several nationally recognized groups on the problem of noise exposure and hearing loss have been summarized into four tables. Auditory Damage Risk Criteria in the form of permissible Sound Pressure Levels are provided for pure tones, steady-state noises, and intermittent noises, for a selection of minutes-exposure during a typical working day. The criteria are limited to the frequency regions 500-2000 cycles per second.
