TYPOLOGY OF INTERNAL CONFLICT: AN ESSAY,

Abstract

The brief survey of the classification systems of internal war available in the literature is divided into two parts. In the first part a discussion of the theoretical problems involved in constructing a taxonomy is followed by a comparative evaluation of the merits of some fifteen systems. The second part is a guide to the literature that includes lists of insurgencies occurring since World War II. (Author)
