A REVIEW OF RESEARCH IN MICROMECHANICS OF COMPOSITE MEDIA.

Abstract

The report consists of a review of the progress of research in micromechanics of composite media. Emphasis is placed on the analyses employing the principles of the theory of elasticity since existing works using strength-of-materials approaches have been superseded. It is not implied that the theory of elasticity is a panacea; it is, however, the only self-consistent theory being used in the determination of composite moduli. The approximations employed in this theory regarding bonding, uniformity, and material response are also made in the less rigorous approaches. (Author)
