PERIODIC VARIATIONS IN FLOW RATE AND CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF HUMAN PAROTID FLUID.

Abstract

A total of 1,100 parotid fluid samples was collected during a 20-day experimental period from 11 healthy young adult males. Collections were made 5 times daily, Monday through Friday, over a 4-week period. Rate of flow was recorded and the concentrations of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, and phosphorus determined. Variations due to differences between subjects, times of day, days, weeks, and associated interactions were evaluated. Both between-subjects and within-subjects tolerance limits were calculated to establish upper and lower bounds of anticipated findings in subsequent samplings from these individuals. (Author)
