STUDIES ON THERMIONIC ENERGY CONVERSION.

Abstract

The work described in the report was divided into nine sections. The first two sections deal with the thermionic emission of the platinum and thorium group metals in cesium vapor. Sections III through V treat investigation of the optical emissivity, vacuum work function, and diffusion in tungsten of osmium metal. Sections VI and VII describe experiments with a double crystal thermionic converter and the wetting of several metals by liquid cesium and sodium, respectively. Sections VIII and IX are concerned with low-energy electron diffraction dealing, respectively, with a new type of low-energy electron diffraction system and an electron diffraction analogue by using light diffraction with two-dimensional lattices.
