A STUDY OF AMPLITUDE RESPONSE AS A FUNCTION OF WAVELENGTH FOR THREE COMMONLY USED SMOOTHING FILTERS,

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the amplitude responses of three filters when applied to a one-dimensional wave as the smoothing element index is varied so that a clear picture of the characteristics of each filter emerges. By examining the response curves, the reader can select the proper filter as applied the gridded meteorological fields. The value of the smoothing element index to produce the desired response can be selected. (Author)
