THE TESTING OF CABLES, WIRES, STRAPS, ETC. (ISPYTANIYA TROSSOV, PROVOLOK, LENT I PR.).

Abstract

The strength of cables, wires, straps, tubing, etc. has been tested with a special instrument called the cable tester. The instrument is mounted on flat tunnel No. 1. It is set up as follows: The axis of the instrument, steel tube AB, rests on antifriction rollers R and R sub 1, which are similar to the rollers used in the Atwood machine. Two arms, D and D sub 1, are hinge-mounted at the ends of rod AB and turn on axes perpendicular to axis AB. The sensitivity of the instrument is regulated by displacement of weight m along a vertical axis attached to axis AB of the instrument. The displacement of weights Q and Q sub 1 causes the instrument's center of gravity to shift horizontally. (Author)
