HARTREE SELF-CONSISTENT FIELD IN THE TWO-CONFIGURATION APPROXIMATION FOR THE TWO LOWEST CONFIGURATIONS OF THE CARBON ATOM (SAMOSOGLASOVANNOE POLE KHARTRI V DVUKHKONFIGURATSIONNOM PRIBLIZHENNII DYLA DVUKH NIZSHIKH KONFIGURATSII ATOMA UGLEROGDA),

Abstract

The method of the Hartree self-consistent field, extended to the case of the two-configuration approximation, is applied to the two lowest configurations of the carbon atom. The Hartree equations, augmented by configuration terms, are solved for the 2p radial orbital of the excited configurations and the values of the total energy are presented. In the approximation in question, the effect of mass on the spectral lines that result from transitions between the investigated configurations, is determined and compared with both the less accurate, earlier theoretical results and the experimentally observed isotopic shift.
