RADAR METHOD OF DETERMINING THE PHASE STATE OF CLOUDS AND PRECIPITATION (RADIOLOKATSIONNYI METOD OPREDELENIYA FAZOVOGO SOSTOYANIYA OBLAKOV I OSADKOV),

Abstract

A method of determining the phase state of clouds and precipitation based on the relation of the polarization properties of scattering particles to their shape is described. The method of observation, the analysis of the observations, and the errors of the method are discussed. Several examples are given of the observation of the distribution of the phase state of cloud and precipitation particles as a function of time and space. The experimental data are compared with data of aircraft and radar soundings and conclusions are drawn on the possibilities and promise of the method. (Author)
