POSSIBILITIES AND DEVICES FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF JET NOISE

Abstract

The paper discusses the present state of the development of techniques for the suppression of jet noise. The theoretical models on jet noise are mentioned briefly, and the 'design principles' for jet noise suppressors are discussed in detail. In defining the generation of jet noise, the following three separate velocity regimes are considered: (low speed jets), (moderate speed jets), and (high speed jets). The discussion on jet noise suppression considers each velocity regime separately, taking into account the extensive overlap between the regimes.
