EFFECT OF DEGREE OF ADMISSION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A CENTRIPETAL TURBINE (VLIYANIE STEPENI PARTSIALNOSTI NA RABOTU TSENTROSTREMITELNOI TURBINY),
Abstract
The effect of the degree of partial admission epsilon on the turbine efficiency has been investigated experimentally in the range epsilon = 1 - 0.09. The schematic diagram and basic dimensions of the turbine tested are shown. Measurements were made of the total inlet pressure, static pressure in the radial clearance between the nozzle rings and the rotor, exist pressure, inlet and exit temperatures, and the shaft torque. Plots were obtained showing the relationship between the efficiency, the degree of reaction, and epsilon. The obtained results show that with a reduction in partial admission, the efficiency drops; at epsilon = 0.5, the efficiency is reduced by 10-15%. A further reduction in the degree of partial admission results in a sharp reduction in turbine efficiency. It was also found that the arrangement of nozzles in the inward-flow radial turbines with partial admission has no effect on turbine efficiency. (Author)
