THE NEW COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AND FOR WHAT,

Abstract

This paper examines the new technology in communications. It focuses on the uses of and accessibility to satellite and other advanced communication devices. Communication capacity is expanding at a very rapid rate. Transmission capacity throughout the world over the next several years will expand by a factor of at least 5 and possibly 10. The demand for broadcast as well as point-to-point communication services is expanding not only in numbers but in variety. The limited number of mass markets of the past is giving way to large numbers of specialized consumer markets. We are moving from an era of the captive audience to a new era of consumer sovereignty.
