ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS IN THE FAR INFRARED REGION.

Abstract

A vacuum monochromator for the 80 to 1,000 micron range, under construction for the past year is described. Initial data on the rotational spectra of HC1, HBr, N2O, CH3C1 and CH3CN were taken to test the performance characteristics of the instrument. Performance data indicated that the monochromator characteristics are: (a) Wavelength reproduction 0.1%; (b) Wavelength calibration 0.5%; (c) Relative intensity measurement 5 to 10%; and (d) A resolution of 2% in the 300 to 700 microns range using a carbon bolometer detector and a scan time of 1 hour.
