THE ARMY AND NUMERICAL CONTROL: A PROGRESS REPORT,

Abstract

The Army Materiel Command launched a 'Coordinated Numerical Control Study for Long Range Plan' in 1964. The main objective was to direct all Army numerical control (N/C) manufacturing effort, to result in the best implementation of symbolic control technology. The initial study phases have been completed, and advance work is progressing. Extensive investigations are planned for FY69 and FY70 to develop fluidic devices for process control mechanisms. Plans have also been developed to study the feasibility of establishing a central N/C pilot-plant facility. This would become the basis for testing new and advanced N/C techniques and systems for all commodity commands of the Army. (Author)
