NATURAL CONVECTION FROM HORIZONTAL RECTANGULAR CYLINDERS OF VARIOUS ASPECT RATIOS.

Abstract

An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the convective heat transfer coefficients for rectangular cylinders with various aspect ratios in air under atmospheric conditions. An empirical formula showing the correlation of the heat transfer coefficient with aspect ratio (height/half-perimeter) is obtained from the experimental data. Four models having the same perimeter were tested with aspect ratios varying from 1 : 8 to 7 : 8. The agreement between the empirical equation and experimental result for all the cases tested is within 5%. (Author)
