Studies on Structural Relations in Crystalline and Vitreous Compounds

Abstract

Studies on the structural properties of crystalline and vitreous polymolybdates and polywolframates were performed. Results obtained from X-ray studies on sodium dimolybdate and diwolframate are reported and discussed. Details of the structural investigation of dipotassium tetrawolframate are given. The research work also comprised some studies on glasses and crystalline substances on arsenate molybdate (wolframate) basis containing alkali or silver atoms. Structural data are given for the crystalline compounds NaZr2(PO4)3 and U(PO3)4. Studies on the structural conditions in the ternary oxide systems containing vanadium and molybdenum or wolfram have been performed. Description of the structures are given for the crystalline phases (Mo0.93V0.07)5O14, W0.375V0.625O2.5 and W0.35O0.65O2.5. Preliminary results are given for investigations of copper wolfram oxides. X-ray investigations have been performed on the compounds CuWO4-x and Cu3WO6. The preparation and properties of amorphous molybdenum trioxide are described. A summary of the types of calculations carried out by computer within this research project is given. Apparatus and measuring techniques for studies or magnetic susceptibility of vitreous and crystalline specimens were developed. Measurements over the temperature region 90K-298K have been performed on the crystalline compounds MoOPO4 and W2O3(PO4)2 and glasses prepared from these phases. The crystals of MoOPO4 were found to be paramagnetic while the other compounds are diamagnetic.
