THE CLASS 'C' WELDING SCHOOL OUTPUT PROBLEM: ANALYSIS AND REMEDY.
Abstract
The course redesign process proved the key to making training, NEC structure, and fleet assignment compatible. Six training packages are specified which permit fleet needs to be more rapidly met by (1) making possible an increase of several magnitudes in use of school capacity, (2) more rapid assignment to meet specific fleet needs, and (3) accomplishing this in a manner that permits long range and continuous improvement in selection, training methods, and the study of measurement problems involved in the present standards for qualification. The proposal will also substantially reduce welding school costs per qualified graduate. The plan will not require an increase in fleet allowance but will require a modest increase in instructional staff. In terms of the magnitude of gains in meeting fleet needs and in reducing effective costs, the problems of implementation appear minor indeed. (Author)
