REDESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A LASER RAMAN SPECTROPHOTOMETER.

Abstract

A summary is given of the considerations which were involved in the design and construction of a laser Raman spectrophotometer. Based on previous experience with the design and performance of the instrument located at Princeton University (see AD-651 646), certain improvements were incorporated. The present system consists of commercial He-Ne and argon-ion laser excitation sources emitting more than 80 mw and 4 watts total output, respectively, a double monochromator, a cooled photomultiplier, dielectrically coated optics, and electronics for dc amplification and pulse counting. Some representative Raman spectra are shown to illustrate the performance of this instrument, and for comparison purposes between the previous and current designs. (Author)
