ROLLING OF METALS AND BIMETALS IN VACUUM (PROKATKA METALLOV I BIMETALLOV V VAKUUME),

Abstract

Investigations show that during deformation in vacuum and in inert gases the intensity of interaction of metals with active gases essentially drops. This ensures obtaining pure and ultra-pure metals and parts (intermediate products) from them. Plasticity is increased and in a number of cases strength of metals, surface quality is improved, losses decrease and yield of suitable metal is increased. The possibility is created of hot working by pressure metals which cannot be deformed in air without special safety measures, due to their great reactivity or toxicity. Deformation in vacuum and in inert media ensures obtaining bimetals with increased and special properties, which cannot be obtained during pressure treatment in air. Treatment by pressure (rolling, forging, pressing and others) in vacuum and in inert media is a very effective and promising method for the production of parts and semifinished products from pure and ultra-pure refractory and rare metals and alloys on their bases without contamination by harmful impurities, and also obtaining bimetals of different compositions with special properties.
