DEVELOPMENT OF IXODIA TICKS IN THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF ISLANDS OF THE SEA OF JAPAN,

Abstract

Observations on the development of Ixodes persulcatus, Haemaphysalis concinna, H. japonica, and Dermacentor silvarum, were carried out in natural conditions on some of the islands of the Sea of Japan. Study of duration of developmental cycle of ticks was carried out by field methods proposed and in laboratory conditions. The observations demonstrated that I. persulcatus females removed from the host in April, oviposited at the end of May (average after 38 days). Females engorged in May, June, July, and August, oviposited considerably earlier; those engorged in May averaged 29 days, those engorged in June 19 days, those in July 12 days, and those in August 11 days. Females engorged between the 8 to 20 September period, oviposited average 18 days. Occurrence of seasonal oviposition in other tick species was also observed. (Author)
