FINDING OF RICKETTSIA BURNETI IN HORSEFLIES TABANUS STAEGERI,

Abstract

The paper presents data on isolation of Rickettsia burneti from horseflies Tabanus staegeri in Kazakhstan. A short characteristic of rickettsial culture lis given as well as the results of identification experiments involving microscopic examination of viscera of inoculated guineapigs and white mice, and complement fixation tests. The fluorescent antibody technique was successfully used in the identification of the causative agent. A question is raised on the necessity of further complex study of the role of Mongolian and other horseflies in the epidemiology and epizootology of Q rickettsiosis. (Author)
