VARIABILITY IN HUMAN PAROTID FLUID URIC ACID, CREATININE, TOTAL NITROGEN, UREA NITROGEN, NONPROTEIN NITROGEN AND TOTAL PROTEIN.

Abstract

Eleven healthy young adult males provided a total of 1,100 parotid fluid samples over a 4-week experimental period. Collections were made 5 times daily, Monday through Friday, over a 4-week period. Rate of flow was recorded, and the concentrations of uric acid, creatinine, total nitrogen, urea nitrogen, nonprotein nitrogen, and total protein were determined. Secretion rates per minute were computed for all chemical variables under test. Variations due to differences between subjects, times of day, days, weeks, and associated interactions were evaluated. Both between-subjects and within-subjects tolerance limits were calculated to establish upper and lower bounds of anticipated subsequent samplings of these individuals. (Author)
