SPINNING DETONATION IN NITROGLYCERIN,

Abstract

A model for initiation and propagation of low-velocity detonation in nitroglycerin is proposed and discussed. It assumes interaction of incident and reflected shock waves and, under certain conditions, formation of Mach waves--locations of high pressures assumed to be centers of initiation. Experimental evidence to support the model is given and results are compared with two other models put forward recently, based on the assumption of precursor wall waves. (Author)
