BURGER'S EQUATION: GENERALIZATIONS AND SOLUTIONS.

Abstract

To understand turbulence and to evaluate approximate procedures for dealing with the Navier-Stokes equations it has been helpful to have had a simple model equation due to Burger. Among other properties it is so simple that analytical solutions are possible. Here we look at some simple generalizations of this equation and their solutions in special cases. It should be noted that the essential point in these models is that by what is essentially the Euler trick of dealing with the Riccati equation one can reduce the problem to a linear one. (Author)
