SURVEY OF EXPERIMENTAL VELOCITY DISTRIBUTIONS IN VORTEX FLOWS WITH BIBLIOGRAPHY,

Abstract

Vortex flow is basic to and of great importance throughout fluid dynamics. Experimental data on circumferential velocities in real vortices is sparse and has been determined mostly for vortex flows generated by straight wings (trailing vortices) and delta wings (leading edge vortices). A literature search was conducted to collect pertinent data and to present a unified picture of present experimental knowledge. This report consists of two parts. The first part sets forth circumferential velocity distributions in wing vortices determined in four investigations in which there was an acceptable degree of confidence in the instrumentation techniques and data analysis. The second part is a bibliography on vortex flows. (Author)
