A 520 page, 16 chapter text book on strength of materials written for use in a three-semester course on the subject as taught by the author at the N. E. Bauman Moscow Highest Technical School. This is the improved edition published in 1963. In distinction to theoretical mechanics, the subject matter confines itself to problems essential to the properties of deformable bodies, e.g., external and internal forces and stress. (Author)
