STRATOSPHERIC WIND OBSERVATIONS BETWEEN 20 DEGREES NORTH AND 20 DEGREES SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR.

Abstract

This report presents results of an analysis of four years of stratospheric wind data for stations throughout the tropics at levels between 22 and 31 kms. A comparison is made between the periodicities inherent in the data for these four years (1962-1966) and those found in the data of an earlier period (1959-1962). Identification of stratospheric wind regimes for a series of latitudes at specific heights makes possible operational planning for considerable periods ahead. Results of the study are presented diagrammatically with a view toward facilitating the task of the operational planner. (Author)
