UPPER BOUNDS ON THE INFORMATION RATE FOR UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC COMMUNICATION.

Abstract

This paper reviews some of the more important publications dealing with fading due to forward sound scattering in the ocean and uses the relevant results to determine their effect in degrading the capacity of the communications channel. It is shown that random signal fading has a very considerable effect on the signal-to-noise power ratio and the maximum information rate of a communications system. (Author)
