TRANSVERSE EDGE EFFECT IN INDUCTION PUMPS (K VOPROSU O POPERECHNOM KRAEVOM EFFEKTE V INDUKTSIONNYKH NASOSAKH),

Abstract

Experimental investigations of the transverse edge effect in induction pumps were carried out on metallic plates in the channel of a mercury pump at a flow rate Q = 0. The following formula was derived for determining the coefficient of K sub delta which characterizes the transverse edge effect: K sub delta = 1 + C (tau/alpha) to the 2nd power, where tau is the pole spacing of the pump; alpha is the width of the metal layer in the pump throat, C is a constant (C nearly equal to 1).
