X-RAY TELESCOPE USING ASYMMETRIC BRAGG CRYSTAL-PLANE DIFFRACTION,

Abstract

A cone covered on the inner surface with a mosaic of small crystals is used to concentrate parallel x-rays onto one small detector. Optimized cones of 20-40 cm diameter with lithium fluoride crystal provide gains of 100 or better from 5-20 KeV. The estimated minimum detectable photon flux at 8 KeV is 3 x 10 to the -5 power photons/(sq cm x sec x KeV). (Author)
