THE TRANSVERSE INJECTION OF A DENSE PLASMA INTO A LINEAR OCTUPOLE MAGNETIC FIELD.

Abstract

The paper presents the experimental results on the transverse injection of a dense plasma into a linear octupole magnetic field. Magnetic and electric probes were used to observe the interaction of the streaming plasma with the octupole field. By time- and space-resolving the signals from these probes, information related to the motion and density of the plasma in the octupole, current densities in the plasma and the transfer of the momentum of the plasma to the mechanical structure were determined.
