EFFECT AND CONTROL OF CHATTER VIBRATION IN MACHINE TOOL PROCESSES.

Abstract

From a classical mathematical model usually employed in general vibrational analysis the procedure to obtain the 'Multiplex'-description is shown and the physical meaning of the involved mathematical derivations is given. By measurement on a medium sized vertical milling machine, it is shown as to within what range of measuring accuracy the normal mode excitation is considered to be satisfactory. For a second milling machine the 'Multiplex' description is made by the normal mode identification technique and for four pairs of positions the mobility transfer functions are synthesized. The same transfer functions are also directly measured using relative exciter and pickup devices. The results of direct measurement and synthesis are compared and fair correlation is observed.
