INVESTIGATIONS OF TE SUB 01 MODE CIRCULAR WAVEGUIDE TRANSDUCER AT MILLIMETER WAVELENGTHS.

Abstract

Three different design approaches to achieve a broadband, low-loss, and well-matched TE sub 10 rectangular to TE sub 01 circular waveguide transducer for millimeter wavelengths were investigated. A model of each type was fabricated and tested. Construction details are given, and test results on each model are discussed. A design was achieved that provides a 20 percent bandwidth over the frequency range 31 to 38 GHz. Spurious unwanted modes are suppressed to give a mode purity in excess of 20 dB. Maximum VSWR values do not exceed 1.18. The insertion loss was found to be higher than desired; however, it is believed this could be reduced by the utilization of a one piece mandrel in the electroforming process. (Author)
