SHIELDING AN EXTERNAL FIELD BY A HOLLOW OBLATE ELLIPSOID (EKRANIROVANIE VNESHNEGO POLYA POLYM SPLYUSHUTYM ELLIPSOIDOM),

Abstract

For practical purposes, such as investigating the effect of foreign bodies on the electric strength of dielectrics, a boundary problem is approximately solved by using the Laplace equation. Those cases where the external field is oriented along the x-axis and along the z-axis are considered. Long theoretical formulas for the shielding factor are given, as well as curves showing the effects of the dielectric constant upon the shielding factor. In dealing with ellipsoid shields, taking the direction of the field into account is recommended.
