THE STRESS-STRAIN CONVERTER. INSTRUMENTATION FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENT OF STRESS AND STRAIN IN A TENSILE-TEST SPECIMEN,

Abstract

This report describes a system for the measurement and recording of the stress and strain, to an accuracy of plus or minus 1%, in a tensile-test specimen at cryogenic temperatures. The system consists of a variable-inductance extensometer and a strain-gage load cell as the transducers, a recorder, and the stress-strain converter. The converter supplies carefully controlled excitation voltages to the transducers and demodulates the ac signal from the extensometer. (Author)
