ON THE INFLUENCE OF RECOMBINATION OF ATOMS IN INSTRUMENTS DURING MEASUREMENT OF COMPOSITION AND DENSITY OF THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE (O VLIYANII REKOMBINATSII ATOMOV V PRIBORE NA IZMERENIYA SOSTAVA I PLOTNOSTI VISOKIKH SLOEV ATMOSPHERI),

Abstract

Oxygen dissociates to a considerable degree in the upper atmosphere. In measurements of composition or density of air, atoms of oxygen recombine in the instruments. The relative role of some recombination mechanisms is assessed here, and formulae are obtained which relate the density in the instrument to that in the atmosphere, by means of calculations of recombination on instrument surfaces.
