THE WEAPONS-ASSIGNMENT PROBLEM

Abstract

Given the situation where there is a stockpile of n missiles and a list of m military targets. The value of the (ith) target is a known quantity V sub i 1 = or < i = or < m. The probability that the (ith) target will not be hit if attacked by the (jth) missile is a known quantity P sub ij, 1 = or < i = or < m, 1 = or < j = or < n. It is assumed that a hit results in total destruction of the target. The report considers the assignment of missiles to targets to effect the maximum expected return.
