SPACE PHYSICS LABORATORY'S SUMMARY OF SPACE RESEARCH SUBMITTED TO COSPAR CY 1967,

Abstract

Preliminary results are presented from the experiments on the Air Force Satellites 1966-70A and 1966-111B and NASA Satellite 1966-110A. Highlights of the particle measurements were the solar flare particle spectra and the evidence for the penetration of these particles into the magnetosphere. The optical measurements on 1966-111B included worldwide observations of atmospheric nightglow at 3914 A, 5577 A, 5735 A, and 6300 A, atmospheric day radiance between 1600 A and 3200 A, Lyman-alpha radiation scattered from the enosphere, and extensive measurements of solar soft x rays in the approximate range from 1 to 13 A, with proportional counters, and in the range from 7 to 25 A, with a Bragg crystal spectrometer. Several results are also presented from the program in laboratory aeronomy. Finally, a progress report from the ground-based solar program is presented. (Author)
