TRAIL CUTTING MACHETE

Abstract

The development of an all-purpose trail cutting machete for use in jungle areas is described. It deals with the design features, materials of construction, and functional capabilities of the machete. A parallel development, including a scabbard and a machete sharpener, is also covered in this report. Tests were conducted at Eglin AFB during Ranger Training FTX's and favorable comments were received from the majority of test participants. A letter report of the USARV evaluation of the USALWL machete is included with this report, stating the findings and recommendations of the 9th Infantry Division. The machete is considered to be an improvement over the US military standard model.
