A DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TO IMPROVE BROADBANDING OF HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER KLYSTRONS.

Abstract

It appears that existing computer programs will accurately predict the bandwidths and gains of klystron amplifiers designed for rather wide (2%) electronic bandwidths. Further, it appears that ordinary filter theory is satisfactory for predicting the output circuit's characteristics. With these two capabilities in hand, it is clear that one can do a good job of designing various broadband klystron amplifiers on paper. An 8-kW cw klystron amplifier was designed to operate at 8 GHz with an electronic bandwidth of 150 MHz, an efficiency greater than 35%, and a drive power requirement of less than 3 watts. (Author)
